All products used must be Professional products  (not from chemist or Supermarket).

All events are open. There are no requirements for qualifications, number of hours working in the Industry or the need to be working in a Barber shop.

You may be:

  • The Raw Talent we are looking for who cuts and sculpts hair for your mates at home or in your own space.
  • You may be that Champion who currently works in a Barbershop and wants to show the rest of NZ what you can do.
  • You may have trained as a Hairdresser but who now choses to work as a Barber.
  • Or you may be the Rising Star at a Barbering Academy like Harrington\Vaughan.
  • All techniques used must be Barbering techniques. No exceptions. You are expected to provide all of our own gear. Barbering Chairs and Stations will be provided.


This is to show your barbering skills in a commercial sense.
Techniques used must be clipper over comb or scissor over comb and scissor work. (No Guards on clippers)
The full haircut must be reshaped and restyled. (cannot be just a shorter version of the existing style).
Must be styled, balanced and must be finished with products to show off the total look.
Scissors, clippers and a razor may be used.


This is to show your skills in shaping and grooming the beard
The beard must be reshaped and wet shave techniques may be used to accentuate the design of the beard
The beard must suit the model, it must be styled, balanced and must be finished with products to show off the total look.
Scissors, clippers & guards and a razor may be used.


This is to show your skills in creating a full skin fade.
The fade must be from skin.
It can be a Low, Medium or High fade.
The transition between the lengths must be smooth and blended and it must be executed with sharpness and balance.
The cut through the top should be fashionable, balanced and styled to suit the models look and features.
Model may or may not have a beard that has been previously styled.
Scissors, clippers & guards and a razor or foil may be used.

Event #4 HAIR AND BEARD CUT : 1 hour

This is the Classic Clipper Blend, the Gentleman’s haircut and it is the cut that says “I have seen the Top Barber in town”
It is a classic clipper cut and you can use your guards.
IT IS DOES NOT include skin fading.
The cut must be balanced, clean and shaped to suit the model.
The beard must be shaped and balanced to compliment the haircut and the models features.

Event #5 FREE HAND “ART ATTACK” : 45 mins

This event will show your creative skills in the art of “Hair Designs”.
The design choice will be open. Each competitor will choose their own design to create.
The lines and design must be clearly obvious as to its nature.
It must be balanced on the head.
No enhancers. Eg no colouring or paints to enhanced the design and no stencils
All heads will be checked to ensure there are no pre-cut lines or designs.


To be eligible for this honour competitors must have competed in EVENTS #3, #4 and #5 as a minimum.

Our Site may use “cookies” to enhance User experience. User’s web browser places cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. THE BATTLE FOR BARBER CITY collects and uses Users personal information for the following purposes:

The email address Users provide for order processing, will only be used to send them information and updates pertaining to their order. It may also be used to respond to their enquiries and/or other requests or questions. If Users decide to opt-in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include company news, updates, related product or service information etc. If at any time the User would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email or the User may contact us via email.


We will not sell or otherwise provide your personal information to a third party, or make any other use of your personal information, for any purpose which is not incidental to your use of our site.
